How bad is life in Mexico? So bad that 10% of their population doesn’t even live there and 14% of their work force is in the United States. Talk about failed social and political experiments!
Washington — The current migration of Mexicans and Central Americans to the United States is one of the largest diasporas in modern history, experts say.Roughly 10 percent of Mexico’s population of about 107 million is now living in the United States, estimates show. About 15 percent of Mexico’s labor force is working in the United States. One in every 7 Mexican workers migrates to the United States.
Mass migration from Mexico began more than a century ago. It is deeply embedded in the history, culture and economies of both nations. The current wave began with Mexico’s economic crisis in 1982, accelerated sharply in the 1990s with the U.S. economic boom, and today has reached record dimensions. - San Francisco Chronicle
Mexico is awash in human capital. 107 million is roughly a third of the population of the United States. There is absolutely no excuse why in a country with that many people, with as much natural beauty as Mexico has and with the abundance of natural resources Mexico has for this to be the case.
I said there is no excuse. But there is a good reason - political and social corruption. Mexico fails to protect the rights of its citizens to own property. Squatting is rampant. And the air of entitlement is thick. But when a country doesn’t even recognize the basic rights of its citizens how can they be expected to prosper?
So they do what all failed political systems do. They find the country that at least has a functioning governmental system and dump their problems upon them. It doesn’t solve their own problems but it makes them less prominent. And when, as a country, you are simply trying to minimize the damage of your own policies you are in deep trouble.
And as long as we continue to let Mexico dump their problems on us and as long as we continue to prop up the failed system south of the border instead of letting it fail we only continue to exasperate the problem. We, as Americans, have a habit of doing this. When the best thing to do in the long run is teach those that we prop up to fish and fix their own problems and become self reliant instead of continually handing them a fish every time they ask.
