Tired Of Oil “Boycott” Plans
J.J. Jackson* | April 27, 2006
I’m tired of every numbskull I know sending me these “Boycott XYZ oil company on [insert date]” emails. They are silly, childish, and quite frankly idiotic. Really people, do you think that not buying oil from Exxon/Mobil for a day is going to make a difference? Ever think that if you boycott one company that means there is even LESS competition to keep prices down?
No, of course you didn’t. You were more worried about your own satisfaction and “feeling good” than actually thinking. And when are you going to fill up with whatever company you boycott? The day before and the day after? Boy, that really told them huh?
So you think that maybe you’ll boycott for a month or longer? Again, what part of less competition don’t you understand? Maybe you’ll go to CITGO and line the pockets of Venezuela’s Communist leader Hugo Chavez? There’s a GREAT plan!
You know what I would like to see? I would like to see one or more oil companies say fine, you want to boycott us for one day? How about we boycott you for a week? A week without any supply to your local service station. Heck, even making a paltry couple cents on the dollar they can afford that. The question is can you?
Or maybe a better question is can the guy that owns the service station afford it? Or maybe the people working in the refinery?
I think it would send a message though. Not a “Hey don’t screw with us! We’re BIG OIL!” message although some might perceive it as that. But rather a “Who needs who more” message that might make people wake up and realize that the real problem here is bureaucrats in Washington that have been lynching the oil companies and America for years telling us that we cannot drill for oil on our own land or build new refineries.
The oil supply is there. And there is much more to be had. The problem is we are not allowed to go and get it and make it into something that we can use. And that you can thank that on Washington.
