We’ll see what Specter’s response is to this email in response to his asinine plan to tax oil companies solely because he thinks they are making too much money:

Mr. Specter,

I am deeply troubled by reports that you are seeking to levy upon oil companies a “windfall profits” tax. Such an action is far and above what Congress and the Senate should be currently concerned with and your body should not be seeking to further regulate an industry already under oppressive government control as is.

Meddling with the affairs of private businesses can have far reaching ramifications including damage to the investment markets in which many Americans are current involved in and are relying upon for their future.

I also think that it would behoove you and your fellow Senators to look at how much money the Federal government is currently collecting per gallon of gasoline sold in this country before you or others begin talking about the oil companies making too much. Please do not forget to include the sum of imbedded taxes that come from mandated social program contributions and compliance costs as well. It is not your role as representatives of this Republic to determine how much money people should be allowed to make.

I would request that you reconsider your course of action and provide real leadership on this issue. A good start would be doing all in your power to help reduce the red tape and regulations that prevent new refineries from being built and also prevent Americans from being able to access the vast oil reserves we have here in our own country.

I do expect to have to get out the Spin to English Dictionary however to decipher it.
