Disturbing Lack Of Constitutional Knowledge

The reason for what I call a disturbing lack of Constitutional knowledge is because our schools fail to teach what the Constitution actually says and means. Then beyond that you have the citizenry that is just completely unwilling to actually read the Constitution the schools have failed to teach.

Yes, I know that this blog has become dominated lately with the topic of illegal immigration (not immigration as some try to claim). And I am quite frankly tired of answering the same unresearched and literally sloppy emails on the topic of what the Federal Government is and is not allowed to do with regards to immigration.

So just to make it clear, here is what the Constitution says:

ARTICLE I
Section. 9.
The Migration or Importation of such Persons as any of the States now existing shall think proper to admit, shall not be prohibited by the Congress prior to the Year one thousand eight hundred and eight, but a Tax or duty may be imposed on such Importation, not exceeding ten dollars for each Person.

Ok, got that? The Constitution CLEARLY says that Congress has the power to set the laws of Migration (AKA immigration) but ONLY after the year 1888. What year is it today? 1887? No, it’s 2006!

Yes, I know that there are many of you out there that think the Constitution sucks and many more like myself who think that while it is great there are certainly some things that could be fixed. But to sit there and try and tell me that control over immigration into the United States is NOT a power that we as a free people gave up to the Federal Government upon our founding only shows your own ignorance and solidifies in my mind that you are not worth listening to since you are not motivated enough to actually learn the truth.
