Damn Those Greedy Rich Republicans!

This morning I was looking through one of the local Wheeling, WV newspapers (I think it was the Intelligencer) as my wife and I visited her mother. One of the headlines that caught my eye was typical of how reporters botch headlines. The main headline was about how much President Bush paid in taxes. The sub headline was basically “Cheney to get refund!”

The funny thing is that while true, it misses the point of the story which was the REASON he was getting a refund was because he donated $6.87 million of his $8.82 million income to charity! That’s 78% of his income to charity! (source: Mercury News)

The sub headline should have focused on that which was the real story. It should have said “CHENEY DONATES 78% OF INCOME TO CHARITY!”

How many of the vaunted, high minded liberals in government are donating 78% of their income to charity? I’d love to see if Kerry, Kennedy or Pelosi can touch that.
