We Need “Consensus” … Really?
J.J. Jackson* | March 21, 2006
At least according to Ruth Marcus in the Washington Post. Commenting on a new book by Harvey C. Mansfield “Manliness”. Relating the concept of manliness to President Bush and his administration she eventually comes to the conclusion that he is wrong stating “What this country could use is a little less manliness — and a little more of what you would describe as womanly qualities: restraint, introspection, a desire for consensus, maybe even a touch of self-doubt.”
And for good measure she tries to back this up with the same left wing talking points that haven’t worked in 4 years. But hey, today is a new day right?
But the manliness of the Bush White House has a darker side that has proved more curse than advantage. The prime example is the war in Iraq: the administration’s assertion of the right to engage in preemptive and unilateral war
That’s right. You heard it. Taking on our enemies before they kill Americans is a “dark side”. It’s not the fact that the enemy kills thousands of civilians by slamming two airplanes into skyscrapers that is “dark” but rather it is President Bush! Oh and Ruth, “unilateral” means to do something alone. Still insulting our allies with troops on the ground I see. Nothing new here. Just more psychobabble.
What is the “consensus” you would like us to reach? Half fight the war like we did in Vietnam? Or maybe just let the enemy beat us half to death?
