We Need Better Citizens Than This

Debra Lafave is not getting off completely free, but she might as well be.

In a case followed nationwide, Florida prosecutors dropped charges against former Tampa teacher Debra Lafave, who admitted having sex with a 14-year-old middle school student.

I’m sorry, but at some point the parents of this young man need to stand up and be parents. That would include telling their son, who was never that shy about telling his friends about his escapades, to get his ass in that court room and help put a child molester away for a long time to help prevent this from happening to someone else.

It’s unacceptable that any person that would claim to be an American citizen would allow someone that molests a child to get away with little more than a slap on the wrist. What we need are better citizens in this country. And probably better parents too who are willing to teach their children that at some point they need to stand up, be accountable and do the right thing.

And the prosecutors are equally to blame. When the judge (rightfully) rejected this asinine plea deal that was worked out they should have pushed forward instead of throwing up their hands and saying “Oh Well! Another child molester walks!”

I figure that there are some truly hard working Mexicans trying to get into this country right now that would be better citizens than this. I wonder if we can make a trade with our buddy Vicente Fox?
