I Will Not Vote For McCain in 2008

I was happy to see this article on Fox News: Frist Wins Southern GOP Conference Straw Poll

McCain, the early GOP front-runner, urged supporters to write in Bush’s name and fared poorly. With 4.6 percent total, McCain finished fifth in the “straw poll.” Even with all of Bush’s votes he would have barely made it into second place.

Deep sigh of relief. I am hoping that that is a sign that McCain’s support among the ever so moderate Republican Party is fading fast since he was just a few short weeks about touted as the next GOP nominee.

I hope the slide continues as well because I don’t want to have another go around with the “lock step” Republicans who would vote for any Republican just to keep a Democrat out of the White House. Last election it started to get ugly as conservatives with more principle in their little fingers than most Republicans have in their entire bodies were seriously wieghing if George Bush was the best man for the job.

Its amazing how the “liberal” in the neo-cons comes out at that point.

But I tell you this today if Sen. John McCain is indeed the nominee in 2008 I don’t care if his oponent is Sen. Hillary Clinton he will not get my vote. I also don’t care if that means that Comrade Clinton wins the White House either. This is a man that single handedly infringed upon the free speech of every American with his ridiculous campaign finance reform bill (which granted W failed to veto). And no man that so blatantly infringes upon a clearly enumerated right ever deserves to be President of these United States.

Combine that with his:
weak record on taxes
failure to help keep government spending in check
helping to block drilling in ANWR and not helping America become less dependant on foreign oil
record on being FOR gun control
pro expanding socialized health care stance
stance on ending ballot initiatives AGAINST illegal immigration
denunciation of the Swift Boat Veterans For Truth as “dishonest”

and so on … I cannot bring myself to ever say that I will vote for this man. Which is a shame because at times he shows flashes of brilliance. Unfortunately it takes more than just “flashes” to run the world’s strongest superpower. At least as a Senator he doesn’t have as much power to screw things up/
