Another Win For Pro-Lifers

Okay, we’re still losing greatly, considering the fact that 1.5 million children will be killed due to abortion this year (which btw, is a heck of a lot more than gun deaths, both intentional and unintentional). But, the pro-death culture has been alive and well for over thirty years. Thanks to the hard work of people who will not relent doing God’s work, we are starting to see the wins.
South Dakota is a great example, along with the other states thinking of following suit. Another giant win is Joe Scheidler winning for a THIRD time.
Longtime Chicago pro-life activist, Joseph Scheidler, has again won in the Supreme Court in a twenty-year-old case brought against him by the National Organization for Women, the leading US radical feminist activist organization. The Supreme Court ruled 8-0 that the charge of extortion could not be applied to pro-life demonstrations outside abortion facilities.
The case dates to 1986 when NOW claimed that pro-life protests outside abortion facilities constituted extortion and could be prosecuted under the federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) and Hobbs Acts, laws designed to combat drug dealers and organized crime.
?I am mystified that I had to go to the trouble and expense of appearing before the Supreme Court three times,? said Scheidler, National Director of the Chicago-based Pro-Life Action League. ?The Court was right when they ruled for us 8-1 in 2003, but the National Organization for Women refused to acknowledge defeat. They convinced the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals to keep the case alive, in spite of the Supreme Court’s clear mandate to end it.?
NOW brought the case back to the appeals court arguing that the RICO statute still applied and that an injunction to keep pro-life sidewalk counselors and picketers away from abortion facilities should still be in effect. The head of the three-judge panel at the Circuit Court of Appeals is Judge Diane Wood, who throughout the duration of the Scheidler case admitted her affiliation with Chicago NOW and Planned Parenthood.
Apparently, exercising one’s First Amendment right in an attempt to bring out the truth behind what an abortion truly is (yes, it’s murder) is considered extortion as far as NOW is concerned. Thankfully, even those who are serving on the Supreme Court realize that is not so.
Let me tell you a story. One time, while holding signs showing a mutilated baby (or in some people’s minds, a mutilated “it”) near a Planned Parenthood building, two women drove past me. One woman was crying uncontrollably as she passed our signs. The other woman was telling her, “Now, this is what you wanted to do.” She didn’t stop to tell us what had happened, but I can only hope she had changed her mind about abortion. Since I never had a chance to talk to her, I can merely speculate.
However, many of my friends have told me about times when people were going to see an abortionist (I refuse to call these people doctors because doctors don?t kill babies). After being able to see the truth about abortions, some of these people have left without getting the abortion. A life was saved in each of those instances.
But, if NOW had their way, many people would still be under the impression that what grows inside a woman?s womb is just an ?it,? not deserving of life because, God forbid, people inform them of the truth.
