Port Contract A DUMB Deal
J.J. Jackson* | February 20, 2006
Letting a foreign company like Dubai Ports World run and operate ports such as Baltimore, Miami, New York, New Jersey, New Orleans, and Philadelphia in a time of war is suicide when it involves a company from a country in the region of the world where the war emanates. DPW is owned by the government of the United Arab Emirates.
Hey, no offense to you Arabs in the UAE who are by many accounts a very “westernized” Arab society but we just cannot take the kind of chances that this deal entails. But would you do this deal? Would you let an Israeli firm operate 6 ports in your country if it was inciting Jews to blow themselves up in your shopping malls? If you say yes you’re lying.
So you can understand it when I say that at this time you will not be getting control of major entry points to this nation.
And President Bush, what the Hell are you thinking? I mean I KNOW you are soft on border security but this is just too much! Shut this deal down. Please! For the love of GOD! Some days I really am embarassed to have voted for you. Do you know that?
