Michigan Socialists On The March

There is a campaign afoot in Michigan to raise the minimum wage. In other words, there is a movement afoot to give government more control over the means of production - our land. There is a name for such things; it’s called socialism. Government mandating what wages business must pay to employees without respect to the actual amount of productivity those employees generate is one way the modern socialist movement seeks to gain government control over industry and make it subservient to the State.

Arbitrary wage floors make no more sense then arbitrary wage ceilings that limit how much you can make. And if you can justify the state setting a floor you cannot argue against the state setting a ceiling.

There is a good Editorial that was published in the Detroit News on this very topic and how it hurts those in jobs that may not be justifiable any longer once the minimum wage is raised.

State Democrats, with the backing of Gov. Jennifer Granholm and with the help of organized labor, are mounting a petition drive to get a higher state minimum wage on this fall’s ballot. The governor mentioned it in her State of the State address. The move is pure self-interest couched in the rhetoric of compassion.

Nobel Prize-winning economist Gary Becker has put it bluntly: “Hike the minimum wage, and you put people out of work.” Economist Thomas Sowell, in his book, “Basic Economics,” cites a survey on the proposition that higher minimum wages increase unemployment among low-skilled workers and notes that 90 percent of the U.S. economists participating in the survey agreed.

In other words - you don’t generate enough revenue to justify your $5.15 (current) or $6.85 (proposed) per hour then you are out of a job.
