GOP May Have “Edge” But Consevatives Don’t

In a recent Fox News Poll it was found that certain GOP candidates would, if the 2008 election were today and the poll is accurate, beat out perceived Democratic front runner Hillary Clinton and even failed 2004 candidate John Kerry.

In Giuliani v. Clinton, Giuliani wins by 11% and in Giuliani v. Kerry, Giuliani wins by 19%. Looking at McCain he would, again according to the polls, beat Clinton by 13% and Kerry by 20%. As my wife likes to say sarcastically “BIG WOO!” Is this what the GOP is going to put out there for the base to vote for in 2008? A pro baby murdering New York City mayor and a war hero from Vietnam who has already demonstrated his propensity to want to curtail first amendment rights?

Gee, neither appeal to me as a libertarian conservative because of their weak stand on clearly constitutionally protected rights. The GOP may well win in 2008 but that is still a long way off. But if they have to use some of the more liberal members of the party in order to do so America certainly will not win. It’s time to stop with the lesser of two evils approach.
