?Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton?

What’s the deal with the Bush family and Bill Clinton? It’s nice to see them all getting along, and it’s nice to see former Pres. Clinton kind of sticking up for Pres. Bush at the funeral for Coretta Scott King. (If that’s what he was *really* doing…)

In case you had your head in the ground earlier in the week, here’s the run down.

Former Pres Carter and the Rev. Joseph Lowery talked some serious smack about the president when they spoke at the King funeral.

The Rev. Lowery said Mrs. King,

All while Pres. Bush sat listening as he sat behind the pulpit.

And that comment about the, “terror inflicted by our smart bombs on missions way afar” is offensive to the men and women who serve in the armed forces. I believe he basically called the USAF a gang or terrorists with that comment. Am I wrong?

Oh, by the way, besides the huge crowd gathered there, the world via the media was also listening while he punked out our troops and the President, with his back to his face. Nice behavior for a man of God. (The can even see the video here)

Check out this nice response to the Rev’s poor behavior…

Well said Johnny Franks, well said. Read the rest of Jonny’s editorial here.

But to make matters worse, a former President also behaved poorly. A former Pres. really should know better. But instead, he took his cues from Wolf Blitzer and brought up the response to Katrina, saying,

An interesting view of reality, but perhaps Pres. Carter missed this MySpinZone.net post about the misconceptions of Katrina.

Or maybe, just maybe he is a partisan hack. He didn’t stop there either, he also made every effort to tie in the wire-tap scandal with the funeral. How tasteful, using Mrs. King’s death as a political tool, disgraceful. Carter mentioned that the members of the King family were once “victims of secret government wiretapping” - obviously alluding to the administrations so called “domestic spying program”. One would think a failed President like Carter would keep his mouth shut. The man lives in the preverbal glass house, but he seems to have no shortage of stones. I wonder if he feels any guilt when he sees what is happening in Iran today?

But back to my point, what’s up with the Bushs and the Clintons? I don’t want to over state Clinton’s “defense” of President Bush, but…

With all the negative and innappropriate comments made in regards to Pres. Bush and his administration, it ws nice to hear Clinton begin his words by saying,

Now some may argue it was just to allude to the fact that his wife may be running, or that he was just trying to rise above the scum, again to help his wife’s political efforts, but either way, the President’s dad seems to really like former Pres. Clinton.

And then there’s this little sound byte from an interview with CBS News’ last month,

(I can’t find a clip of this, but if anyone else can, please post a link in the commetns…)

Some may find this funny, others may find it annoying. I think it’s harmless, intriguing and maybe a little odd. It also gives me a little hope. With all the nasty political battles these days, it’s a good thing to see grown men with political differences that are able to separate politics from the person and maintain a friendship despite their differences. Politics have become way too personal. Reasonible debate has been replaced with personal attacks. Maybe The Bush family and at least half of the Clinton family have risen above it all. Perhaps…

This guy thinks it’s an oligarchy. And Jacob G. Hornberger thought Bush and Clinton should have ran for the Oval Office together in 2004. OK, now that’s a bit much.

Not to worry, not everything between the Bushs and the Clintons is kittens and roses.

Perhaps Bill is playing “Good Cop” and Hillary is playing “Bad Cop”??? (See “plantation” comments)

Either way, I think a guys night out bar hoping with Bill Clinton and the father and son Bush (despite the obvious alcohol issues) would be a good time… And maybe that’s a lesson for us all, leave politics at home when you hang out with your friends, and stick to the fun stuff.
