A Review Of Treason

Article III, Section 3 of the United States Constitution says “Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.”

Just so there is no confusion we’ll make sure to define all the pertinent words here. “Adhering” means “to give support”. “Aid” means “to provide with what is useful or necessary in achieving an end”. And “Comfort” means “to give strength and hope to”.

So is it treason when actors Gary Busey and Billy Zane co-star in a movie for distribution in the Muslim world where American soldiers are depicted as killing innocent women and children and harvesting their organs? Hmmm. Well let’s see. Radical Islam thrives on a hatred of western society and the Jews so I would say that it is not that far of a stretch to say YES you are giving aid and comfort to the enemy and adhering to them. Clearly you are giving them support (i.e. false propaganda), providing them with something that is useful of necessary to an end (i.e. inciting radical Muslims with these lies) and giving them hope (i.e. that Americans really are devils and the Jews really do want to kill them all).

Yep. Not that big of a stretch at all.

But ask your typical liberal and this isn’t treason at all - rather its “patriotic”. Yeah - ok - inciting the enemy in a time of war is “patriotic”. Uh - huh … suuuuuuure.
