Yet Another Mexican Military Excrsusion…Wake Up Bush!
J.J. Jackson* | January 24, 2006
Men in Mexican military-style uniforms crossed the Rio Grande into the United States on a marijuana-smuggling foray, leading to an armed confrontation with Texas law officers, authorities said Tuesday. No shots were fired.
The men retreated and escaped back across the border with much of the pot, though they abandoned more than a half-ton of marijuana as they fled and set fire to one of their vehicles, authorities said.

Pardon me if I have a hard believing anything that the Mexican government has to say. They’ve not proven to be the most trustworthy with anything they say: with the exception of wanting to let millions of their poor find a real country to find a job.
How many more documented armed confrontations must the United States endure with Mexico? While this excursion and another in the same area that was documented months ago have taken place, how many have taken place of which we are not aware?
Why must Americans along the border endure this? Can you imagine what would happen if military units, guerilla or official units of another country (although there is not much difference in Mexico) came ashore in New York? There would be outrage! Is New York somehow more important to America than Rio Grande? Or, are citizens of Rio Grande having to expect this due to living to a third world, corrupt country?
With excursions like this, and all the other problems we face along our southwestern border with our so-called ‘friend,’ why should our country extend anything to Mexico, especially more lenient rules to allow their entry?
“It’s certainly troubling and unacceptable and a real reminder of how an unsecure border threatens all Texans and the rest of the nation,” said Perry spokesman Kathy Walt.
The Mexican Foreign Relations Department issued a statement saying that drug traffickers and other organized criminals have used uniforms and vehicles before. “It is possible that these actions were designed to damage the image of our armed forces,” it said.
The only people who need the reminder, Ms. Walt, are those who are supposed to be doing the job they are supposed to do and protect this nation. Nonetheless, I thank you for coming forth and saying what needed to be said.
As for the Mexican Foreign Relations Department: how do you explain the other times the Mexican military have entered the United States?
The Mexican military has crossed into the United States 216 times in the past nine years, according to a Department of Homeland Security document and a map of incursions obtained by the Daily Bulletin. Daily Bulletin
Or perhaps you can explain this, Mexico:
In one 2000 incident, more than 16 Mexican soldiers were arrested by border agents in a small town west of El Paso, in Santa Teresa, N.M., after Mexican soldiers fired on the agents, said T.J. Bonner, president of the National Border Patrol Council, a union representing the agents.
What image is your military trying to convey? I would think that when military units invade another country (i.e., show up uninvited) and shoot at that country’s nationals, that is an act of war! Of course, President Bush doesn’t want to upset his boyfriend, Vicente Fox!
President Bush, you talk about the war on terror, but you fail to recognize one country that terroririzes this nation daily. I’m sure your guest worker program will help alleviate this problem.
