If The Democratic Money Is SO Clean Why Back Away From It?
J.J. Jackson* | January 6, 2006
You are right now hearing from the left wing noise machine that the money Democrats raised from Abramoff clients is not the same as money donated directly by Abramoff. Some of them have even gone so far as to say that the Indian Tribes were “victims” of Abramoff. Great, another “victim” group for the left. I guess that doesn?t surprise me. Seems many people on the opposite side of the isle would rather blame someone else. ?Victims? abound there.
But apparently some of the Democrats that received this money don’t agree. Hillary Clinton, for example is giving $2,000 in campaign funds received not from Abramoff, but by his “victims”, to charity:
New York Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton’s campaign is contributing $2-thousand dollars in donations from American Indian tribes that were clients of disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff. He’s now at the center of a congressional corruption probe. - AP article at 7Online
and Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D. is
returning $67,000 in donations in response to Associated Press reports that he collected tribal money around the time he took actions favorable to those Abramoff clients. - MSNBC
So apparently not everyone agrees.
Seems as though there are at least some Democrats that don’t agree with the left’s spin on what is happening. Maybe they need to have a conference call among all the elected officials (who would be in a good position to know if there was something fishy about the money they were receiving) and the left wing bloggers and tin hat wearers? You know, just to make sure the story is consistent here.
I think that most Senators and Congressmen that are returning money are doing it just for show. They are doing it to try and “distance” themselves from Abramoff and his clients. But if it was shown that they took money for votes then they should still be strung up for it. I don?t care if the money came from Abramoff or his ?victims?. If the money bought votes it is still dirty money.
Good luck proving that however. Anything short of a letter saying “I Senator X changed my vote because Abramoff (or his clients) gave me a pretty watch” is going to be little more than he said she said. But the left wing noise machine will continue to point at Republicans only on this issue, maybe with a few lone voices in the wilderness suggesting to look at everyone.
