I wish Popes would just stick to what they know.

I love Pope John Paul II. That man did more for our world than any other leader, yet never received full recognition on this earth (mind you, Arafat got a Nobel). No matter, he is with Jesus now and that is far better than any recognition one can have down on this short-lived time on Earth.
With that said, it would greatly offend me when he and other Catholic leaders would insist that we accept all immigrants, legal status nothwistanding.
Well, following suit comes Pope Benedict XVI:
The pope called on people to recognize the benefits of migration and overcome “every form of discrimination, injustice and disdain for the human person, because each person is an image of God.”
Addressing visitors in St. Peter’s Square after reciting the midday Angelus prayer, the pope said the movement of people is a “sign of the times.”
While the movement may be voluntary or forced, legal or clandestine, motivated by work or study, Pope Benedict said, the arrival of newcomers from far away can lead to a knowledge of and respect for ethnic and cultural differences. - Catholic Online
Will all due respect, Holy Father, using the argument of discrimination and the like is weak at best. Too many people try to label those of us who do not want illegal immigrants invading our sovereign nation as racist when nothing could be farther from the truth. Are there those who might be racist? Just as there are illegal immigrant advocacy groups who are racist, I’m sure there are those on the other side with the same sentiment. But, to paint such a broad stroke is irresponsible.
Why would the Pope be willing to condone illegal behavior? Entering another country illegally is a crime and there is no moral or religious justification for such action. Would the true head of our Church, Jesus, be willing to accept such activity?
Now, while I truly believe that the Catholic Church is the Church established on Earth via Jesus Christ Himself, comments like these from people whom I seek guidance and enlightenment really upsets me. By saying that we have to accept all immigrants, legal or otherwise, the Pope is giving his blessing to those who wish to come to the United States in ways other than that which has been established as legal.
The Pope cannot even fathom how terrible illegal immigration plagues our nation, any more than President Bush can know much of anything about the workings of Christ’s Bride, the Church. However, you do not see President Bush telling the Vatican how to run things. Why can’t the Vatican reciprocate by leaving us unmolested while we actually try to secure our nation?
