Brokeback Mountain Wins 4 Globes … Take THAT Real America!
J.J. Jackson* | January 17, 2006
Brokeback Mountain last night received 4 Golden Globe Awards. Proving once again that Hollywood doesn’t give a rat’s ass about if a movie does well or not. They’ll reward it anyway if it has the right message.
Two homosexual cowboys hasn’t been that big of a success. The film has been in limited release and only on January 13th went to “wide” release of 683 screens bringing in an anemic $5,805,082 in that first weekend (boxofficemojo.com). Yawn.
Compare that to say The Chronicles of Narnia which was released the same day, found a home in 3,853 theaters and has raked in $264,020,859 so far with $65,556,312 on opening weekend. In fact Narnia is STILL one of the top 5 movies in ranking #4 last weekend with $12,809,767 (boxofficemojo.com). Narnia won not one award.
That’s right. Screw you you red necked hicks in middle America! You don’t know anything about great art! Listen to us! LISTEN! Why aren’t you listening!?!?!?!?!
