Some Interesting Pretzel Logic By ACLU?
AJStrata at The Strata-Sphere talks about how the ACLU is raiing against President Bush for sidestepping FISA which they believe is unconstitutional anyway!
Pretty good read.
Congressman Mike Doyle Verifies Democrats Strategy
Living in Pennsylvania’s 14th Congressional District I often get mailers from one of the left’s more spineless liberals - Congressman Mike Doyle. Mr. Doyle loves big government and is a proponent of continued socialist programs like Medicare and Social Security (”today voted against a bill containing nearly $50 billion in cuts in federal programs like Medicaid, student loans, foster care, and child support enforcement” - Mike Doyle) and if he was a little more vocal on the floor of the Congress he might be as well known for his insane ramblings as Rep. John Murtha is.
In his most recent “December 2005 Iraq Update” Congressman Doyle let’s slip that his strategy on Iraq is the same that we on the “right” have been saying the Democrats would take. I.e. there was no plan to bring troops home until Rep. Murtha opened his yap and now they want the credit when troops are brought home!
“For months now the Pentagon has been anticipating, if not actively planning, a major drawdown of U.S. forces in Iraq in the coming year. But only now, after Congressman Murtha spoke out, has the Bush administration begun suggesting that a drawdown is possible.”
What utter BULL SHIT! First he admits that the Pentagon has been working on figuring out how to get out troops home (i.e by WINNING the war!) and then in the next breath he says that it was because of Congressman Murtha! Mind up your make! This is double talk worthy of Senator John “I actually did vote for the $87 Billion before I voted against it” Kerry!
Oh, but that was not the only gem of psychobabble from the Congressman! “From the beginning, this administrations has lacked a clear, coherent policy for rebuilding Iraq and bringing U.S. troops home.” Apparently “win the war” isn’t considered a “clear, coherent policy” for this political hack. And for good measure he reiterates the same DNC talking points memo that were first issued.
“At the time I believed that the administration had failed to make a convincing case that Iraq possessed or was building weapons of mass destruction,” I guess the fact that Saddam said he had X amount of these weapons and failed to give up X amount isn’t enough “proof” for this ivory tower elitist! “[T]hat the Iraqi government played a role in the 9/11 terrorist attacks,” I don’t think that President Bush said they did but it is still something that the DNC feels the need to trumpet. “[T]hat Iraq posed and imminent threat to the United States,” again, NOT an issue because the argument was “Some have said we must not act until the threat is imminent. Since when have terrorists and tyrants announced their intentions, politely putting us on notice before they strike?” - President George W. Bush.
Sit down Congressman Doyle, you are apparently not educated enough and far too partisan to be thinking clearly. We’ve got a war to win. And we’ll do it without you or your idol Rep. Murtha. Thank you for your service but you are truly an idiot!

Hey ACLU, We Are Still Waiting For The Evidence
The American Civil Liberties Union today sharply criticized a Justice Department investigation into the disclosure of an illegal National Security Agency domestic eavesdropping operation approved by President George W. Bush. - ACLU
Further
Anthony D. Romero: “President Bush broke the law and lied to the American people when he unilaterally authorized secret wiretaps of U.S. citizens.
I don’t know about you but I am still waiting for the evidence that U.S. Citizens were wiretapped illegally how about you?
When Valerie Plame’s name was “leaked” (which wasn’t really a leak) we had to investigate out to wazzo who on God’s green Earth did that! Now we have someone leaking information about a top secret government program and we aren’t supposed to investigate that. It’s confusing even to the mind of a those that thought this strategy up!
Let’s look at what we know. Leaking classified information IS illegal. On the other side we have a claim (and it is only a claim) that the actions the ACLU calls illegal “wiretaps of U.S. citizens” which may or may not be true and we are waiting with baited breath for evidence. Seems to me you would investigate the crime you know to be true rather than the one you have no evidence of.
There is a point where I don’t care if it is “illegal” to leak classified information such as in instances where we have evidence the government has exceeded it’s authority. But you have to show me that evidence first before I hop over the cliff with all the Kool Aid drinking lemmings. After all the power is in the people, not the government and the government is subordinate to the people.
This charge might be a little more believable IF the ACLU was outraged that both Clinton and Carter had used the same authority as well.
Bill Clinton:
“Section 1. Pursuant to section 302(a)(1) [50 U.S.C. 1822(a)] of the [Foreign Intelligence Surveillance] Act, the Attorney General is authorized to approve physical searches, without a court order, to acquire foreign intelligence information for periods of up to one year, if the Attorney General makes the certifications required by that section.”
Jimmy Carter:
“1-101. Pursuant to Section 102(a)(1) of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978 (50 U.S.C. 1802(a)), the Attorney General is authorized to approve electronic surveillance to acquire foreign intelligence information without a court order, but only if the Attorney General makes the certifications required by that Section.”

Muslim Terrorist Attack At Home Depot?
Ok, maybe not quite what most people would consider a terrorist attack but this largely unreported
With a copy of the Quran and a Palestinian flag in his trunk, a Jordanian-turned-U.S. citizen crashed his car into a Home Depot in Arizona where he formerly worked, igniting an explosive blaze in the stores’ paint section and causing $1 million in damage. - WorldNetDaily
Apparently this was in retaliation for Home Depot not giving him the raise he felt he was “entitled” to
Warrayat worked as a paint stocker in the Chandler store six months ago but was transferred to another Home Depot location after difficulties with a supervisor. He told police he was angry at the store management about not getting a proper raise.
Looks like he has learned his liberal lesson plan well! Didn’t get your “entitlement” go burn down some private property. Yep, that’s the way things should be done.
He was also reportedly upset that the United States might try to keep illegal aliens out of the country along with other nutballs like himself by building a 700 mile fence
He also said he was mad at the United States for proposing a 700-mile fence along the Mexican border and wanted to make the country “more free.”
I say if the “fence” idea made him so angry that it caused him to go wacko then it probably is a good idea.

Townhall.com … Better Late To The Party Than Never
2005 Citizens of the Year: The Iraqi People
Gee, I first blogged on a similar topic to this back immediately after I heard the news that TIME Magazine had snubbed the Iraqi people for “People of the Year” in favor of Bono & Mr. & Mrs. Gates! As I think most of the rest of the intelligent conservative blogosphere did as well!
Welcome to the party Townhall.com!
What About When Saddam Was Elected?
“A team of international monitors will visit Iraq to review complaints that parliamentary elections held earlier this month were unfair.” - BBC
This is good news (assuming they have REALLY as their interest what they claim) but one must wonder where were all these groups concerned about “fair” elections when Saddam was in power?
Hmmmm…
Some Time You Feel Like Nut …
The man that threw a live grenade a President Bush trying to kill him is a funny man indeed
“[Arutuynan] … came to the court hearing on Tuesday with his mouth sewed up. He claimed earlier his rights were violated. At the beginning of December, Arutunyan refused to testify in his case unless the representatives of Human Rights Watch attended the proceedings. He said the sentence had been ?handed down even before the trial began.?- mosnews.com
And there are people out there that think we can negotiate with these kooks!
On Spying - Accusations, Misrepresentations And A Lot of Missing Pieces
The ACLU is making some pretty steep acusations as are many on the left. It is the latest round of “gotcha” they are trying to play with President Bush as revenge against relentless and truthful attacks against their own Teflon Don, Bill Clinton.
Every week there is some new “scandal” being thrown against the wall to see if it sticks. I often call this “cooking spaghetti” because one of the ways you can tell when the pasta is done is that it sticks to the wall. I firmly believe that each time the spaghetti doesn’t stick the left gets more and more shrill and outrageous with their next attack.
A lot of people have been putting messages in my email box concerning the “Bush spied” allegations now circulating. Those on the right are asking what I think. Those on the left are demanding that I condemn President Bush as if I never have done THAT before! And now the ACLU has this full page ad in the New York Times.
So I?ll tell you what I think. I think that right now there is a lot of yelling and spaghetti getting cooked while we are incredibly short on details and facts about what is actually going on. For example, the ACLU claims that President Bush ?lied? about what he was doing. Their claim is that because President Bush admitted they had been intercepting conversations without a warrant that he lied when he said the following on April 20, 2004:
?Now, by the way, any time you hear the United States government talking about wiretap, it requires — a wiretap requires a court order. Nothing has changed, by the way. When we’re talking about chasing down terrorists, we’re talking about getting a court order before we do so. It’s important for our fellow citizens to understand, when you think Patriot Act, constitutional guarantees are in place when it comes to doing what is necessary to protect our homeland, because we value the Constitution.?
What they are leaving out (which always seems to be the case with left wing ideologues) is that there is more to this quote. The sentence
Secondly, there are such things as roving wiretaps.
preceeds this and is left off. Why? Because President Bush was talking about ?roving? wire taps specifically in this speech which can be read in full here.
A roving wire tap, for reference, is a wire tap that is focused on the person and all phones they might be using instead of a single phone. The speech was also about the Patriot Act which specifically ensures the rights of United States Citizens from abuse
But including that information would not paint as dire a picture. So it is instead left out.
The question here is really what was done by the NSA. And to be quite honest there seems to be a distinct void when it comes to such information. Lots of accusations and lots of spaghetti getting thrown on the wall however.
Should the United States and the President be spying on United States citizens? My answer is no in 99.9% of the cases. That small 0.1% I leave open is when that citizen renounces their citizenship by beginning to work with enemy agents with which the United States is at war with. Should the government have the right to intercept and listen in on phone conversations directed to or from enemy agents in foreign countries the United States is currently at war with? Yep even if one of those parties is a United States Citizen or someone under the jurisdiction of the United States. Those circumstances do not grant immunities to the party on the other end of the conversation.
Should the United States government prosecute law-abiding citizens? Never.
Should the United States government take into custody, hold and interrogate people that become enemy combatants or take up arms against the United States in a time of War? Absolutely.
Mistrust of government is high. And well it should be. How many times have I said that I carry a gun specifically for protection from the government as well as criminals? Too many to count. All government power will be abused. Note that I did not say ?might? or ?can? be. I said ?will? be abused.
It may not be abused by all that have their hands on the reins but eventually someone with the desire to abuse power will get a hold of it and do just that.
It is impossible to live in a bubble. Should all agents of the NSA and even the federal government be required to wear ear plugs when in public so that they cannot possibly overhear what is said by those around them? After all, anything they hear could be considered ?spying?. If you are that paranoid there is help available.
Eternal vigilance is the key combined with the right to keep and bear arms. Because as long as the population is armed AND wary AND willing to act on top of that cowards that would seek to usurp government power will be held in check.
It?s not the knowledge itself that is the problem. It is how the knowledge is used that can be.
Do I have a problem with a super secret computer system that is out there scanning the air waves for trigger words that may be cause for alarm or related to potential attacks against this nation and her people? No.
Do I have a problem when that program is used to punish political enemies of the ruling party? Yep.
Do I have a problem when that program is used to start spying on people and gathering information on them when they are not involved with enemies with whom we are at war? Yep.
Do I have a problem when that program is used to simply place people on a ?watch list? because they said something that might be unpopular? Yep.
But none of those things have been shown to have happened. In fact what I have seen is basically a program that is looking for those that we are at war with and figuring out what they are up to. Is there a possibility that someone within the program is using it for more? Maybe. And if they are, show me that evidence.
But all we have right now is a boatload of allegations about harmed civil liberties and spying on American citizens. I remind you that we are indeed at war. And there are people out there trying to kill us. I know that September 11th is a long time in the past to many, but please do try and remember it.
If our nation is not secure there is no liberty for you or me. And if you want your liberty you are going to have to let the government prosecute this war and kill and capture the enemy. But if they step over the line and start to methodically prosecute law abiding citizens that is when the shooting should and will start.
Maybe President Bush DID break the law. But it seems that it is only now a problem for the political left and when President Clinton did it (and we have the Executive Order to prove it) it was a-ok. So if you are a lefty gung-ho about taking on President Bush over this then you admit that President Clinton needed to be impeached as well.
Me, however, I will wait and see until all the facts are in. Then I?ll tell you what I think should be done on this particular issue.
