Liberal Democrats Don’t Know What They Want
J.J. Jackson* | November 19, 2005
Following three hours of intense debate, the House voted this evening 403-3 to reject a non-binding resolution to immediately withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq.
Responding to a call yesterday by Democratic Rep. Jack Murtha of Pennsylvania to withdraw troops from Iraq, House Republicans had scheduled a quick vote this evening to settle the issue and put lawmakers on the record.
The Republican alternative read: “It is the sense of the House of Representatives that the deployment of United States forces in Iraq be terminated immediately.” It was proposed by Rep. Duncan Hunter of California. -WorldNetDaily
Liberal Democrats are calling the move a political ploy but it WAS one of their own members, Congressman Murtha who proposed that the troops be withdrawn “at the earliest predictable date.”
The insist (don’t they always) that this comment was taken out of context and NOT meant to mean the United States should “cut and run”. In fact Nancy Pelosi (head Socialist for the Democrats in the House) said the vote was “A disgrace”. A “disgrace” Nancy? It is a “disgrace to vote on your position on something? Boy - you must REALLY not have wanted the people to know EXACTLY where you stood with an attitude like that!
Well, let’s look at Murtha’s statement shall we?
What is the “earliest predictable date” that we can get our soldiers of of Iraq? The answer is “immediately”. We just start putting them on planes and boats and sail away.
The liberals like to talk in this code speak language. They don’t say definitive things like “when the job is done” but rather talk in ambiguous terms that allow them all the weasel room in the world.
But the BALLS OF SOLID ROCK award goes to Rep. Jean Schmidt (R) of Ohio quoted Marine Corps Reserve officer and Ohio state Rep. Danny Bubp:
“He asked me to send Congress a message ‘Stay the course,’” she said, “he also asked me to send Congressman Murtha a message, that ‘Cowards cut and run. Marines never do.’”
Reports are that Democrats wailed and moaned at the statement.
The battle lines are finally being drawn about a year too late on this issue of what NEEDS to be done and who doesn’t want to do it. And now Democrats are stuck because almost all of them voted NOT to remove the troops at the “earliest predictable date” but rather stay the course. Although they’ll deny it. But like I said before — don’t they always do that?
Who voted to pull out now?
Democrats Cynthia A. McKinney of Georgia (D)
Robert Wexler of Florida (D)
Jose E. Serrano of New York (D)
With 6 SPINELESS COWARDS simply voting “present” and not wanting their position to be known. (source Washington Times)
