The Waiting Will Be The Hardest Part

President Bush picked Harriet Miers to fill the Supreme Court seat vacated by Justice Sandra Day O’Connor. Conservatives are in a tizzy that she is not a known comodity. LIberals are in a tizzy because - well - President Bush has be allowed to nominate 2 SCJs.

What kills the most about this nomination is that we don’t know that much about Miers. And it will be likely to be known only years after she is confirmed (and she will be confirmed) how this nomination plays out and whether or not it was a brilliant pick or a brilliant failure that leaves us with a court like we have had for years - anti Constitution.

I would like to say that I trust President Bush on this nomination but with other things he has done such as Campaign Finance Reform, our porous border with Mexico, etc I don’t know that I have that much faith to give at this point. Miers will be innocent until proven guilty in my mind however.
