Conservatives did something special by bringing their voices to bear against a candidate for the Supreme Court that had many a prominent liberal Democrat talking about her as though she was an acceptable nominee. Any time a liberal starts talking about how a Supreme Court justice is ok with them you need to take a second and hard look at that nominee. We did something special by making her withdraw from consideration and send a message that we have won and we want to act like winners instead of pussyfooting around trying to make nicey nice with left wing loons.
President Bush tried to squeeze through a nominee on the basis of “trust me”. But what he learned was that conservatives kept a very important lesson taught to us by Ronald Reagan - “Trust but verify”.
And now that Harriet Miers is no longer the nominee liberals are quaking in their boots that the next nominee will be a hard nosed conservative with little doubt about their ideological standpoint on issues and the constitution. The question is will President Bush finally have the balls to have the fight that we need to have.
