Explain Why This Is Again?
J.J. Jackson* | October 27, 2005
Rather than add a school holiday for Muslims who were requesting one, a Florida school board has canceled all religious observances ? including Yom Kippur, Good Friday and the day after Easter. - WorldNetDaily
The reason?
“A school board cannot recognize a religious holiday for the sole purpose of recognizing a religious holiday,” board attorney Tom Gonzalez
That is a nice statement but it’s not true unless there is some greater reason given other than they simply “cannot”.
Why can they “not”? Because they are part of the government and because the government cannot recognize religious holidays? That excuse has been tired and failed to pass the smell test because even our founding fathers used the government to recognize God.
Do I have to post this again? Please tell me I don’t have to…ok I will anyway since it keeps the idiotic anti-religious left from responding with meaningless tripe:
THE FIRST THANKSGIVING PROCLAMATION - OCTOBER 3, 1789
George Washington
“Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the Providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor, and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint committee requested me to commend to the people of United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness, now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next, to be devoted to the service of that great and glorious Being, Who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or will be.”
So anyone want to take a stab at defending this decision?
