ANWR Opinions Changing?
J.J. Jackson* | September 18, 2005 |
“Asked which should be a more important priority for the country, 49% say developing new energy sources, while 42% say protecting the environment. This is unchanged from previous surveys in 2001 and 2002″ - Pew Research March 24, 2005
During that poll Total 42% of Americans favored drilling in ANWR (63% of Republicans, 29% of Democrats and 38% of Independents)
There is a new poll out from Pew conducted between Sept 8-11 2005 shows that that number has increased. Gee, I wonder why? Could it be a realization that one hurricane can put a large crimp on our oil and gasoline supply?
The new survey shows 57% say developing new energy is more important than protecting the environment (36%). Of course this question is loaded because developing new energy is not directly correlated with destroying/protecting the environment.
Of course the survey also shows that the American people are still generally ignorant as to why energy prices are as high as they are with 36% saying oil companies and 27% saying President Bush. Only 4% recognized the true problem which is Congress who passes ALL laws that have to be met in order to produce oil, gasoline and other oil products. These laws are the reasons why costs are so high. When Congress says refineries have to produce low sulfur diesel and require refiners to invest tens of millions in new equipment prices you and I pay go up to cover this investment. It’s just simple economics - and this poll shows that it is high time we actually start teaching it to our children otherwise the American people will continue to be ignorant.
Note: What makes this poll even more remarkably is that despite weighting it (once again) towards “Democrats” the results are still pushing against typical Democrat talking points. This poll surveyed Republicans 40% Democrats 52% and Other/Don’t Know 8%. (pg 21)

On topic and intelligent comments are always welcome as are humorous observations. But liberal talking points with no basis in reality, off topic comments, spam and advertisements are not. Even though you may think you are an intelligent liberal, you probably are not. Keep this in mind as trolling is prohibited and will result in your comments not being approved and comments informing us how much we are a bunch of idiots because you say we are or espousing hate towards the truth are often moved directly to the official “I Hate You/You’re An Idiot” thread.
