Have you heard about how a new AP poll has President Bush’s approval rating at only 42%? I heard a brief mention about this on the radio and thought I would check it out. Maybe you have and maybe you haven’t. If you have, you might think that President Bush in trouble. If this is the first you are hearing it you are probably thinking the same thing.
Well, as usual the truth is in the internals of every poll. The media and even the poll itself can say that the poll says one thing, but the raw data often tells a different story.
Out of ALL ADULTS polled when asked if they were registered to vote:
Yes 79
No 21
Out of those registered to vote:
Strongly Republican 19
Moderately Republican 20
Definitely Independent/neither 11
Moderately Democrat 27
Strongly Democrat 21
Refused/not sure 2
Now do the math. Yep. 39% Republican and 49% Democrat. So it took Ipsos and AP over sampling Democrats by 5% in order to get Bush’s new low approval rating.
The poll also talks about the “situation in Iraq”. Not the “War in Iraq” mind you but the “situation”. Among all adults that responded, 59% said that they “disapproved” of the “situation”. Well, um yeah! Even I “disapprove” of the “situation”! I “disapprove” of how Terrorists are attacking the Iraqi people! And if I living off a steady diet of car bombings and terrorist attacks instead of digging past the AP wire to learn the good things going on in Iraq I might even “disapprove” of the “situation” even more so.
Basically folks it is pathetic. It is pathetic that the AP and Ipsos are out there trying to pass these polls as some great look at the thoughts of Americans.
And if you doubt what I say about the internals you can read them for yourself. Unlike the mainstream media that will only tell you what they interpret the results to mean, I will actually give you the link to the raw data so you can see for yourself the deception.
