The People’s Republik of Hawaii

You know Hawaii is a true “blue state” when they start telling people what they can and cannot charge for their products. Socialism has always been a fashionable trait among the lefties after all.

The State of Hawaii has decided that they know what price gasoline should sell at and is instituting caps on the price of gasoline.

That’s right - supply and demand? Apparently the elected officials in Hawaii have never heard of it or at least chose to ignore it.

The move comes among concerns over “price gouging” which is a fictitious creation. There is no such thing a “price gouging”. Prices are set at what the market demands. Set them too high and “gouge” and the product cannot be afforded or is done without. Set them too low and there is no incentive for the product to be produced. Even a first year economics student (at least one that isn’t an avowed Marxist and willing to admit the truth) knows this.

You have people like Frank Young, a member of Citizens Against Gasoline Price Gouging wailing and moaning about this fictitious event. That organization should just be renamed Citizens Against Capitalism and For Socialism. What Frank Young is really complaining about is that someone is making a profit. GASP! How droll! I mean how dare Chevron Corp. and Tesoro Corp. be allowed to make a profit to fund pension plans and 401ks of MILLIONS of Americans invested in their companies and relying on dividends?

FYI, for the left out there no “profit” means no “dividend”.

This move is tantamount to government control over private property and industry. And I would like nothing more than to see Chevron Corp. and Tesoro Corp. close up their refinery until this silliness subsides. Such an act would wake the people of Hawaii up when they wind up shipping in their gas and paying $4.00 a gallon!

But no doubt if that happened the State would somehow demand that the gas only be sold at an arbitrarily lower rate anyway. So let the island dry up I say. But then I am sure the left would just blame President Bush and Big Oil anyway!

On topic and intelligent comments are always welcome as are humorous observations. But liberal talking points with no basis in reality, off topic comments, spam and advertisements are not. Even though you may think you are an intelligent liberal, you probably are not. Keep this in mind as trolling is prohibited and will result in your comments not being approved and comments informing us how much we are a bunch of idiots because you say we are or espousing hate towards the truth are often moved directly to the official “I Hate You/You’re An Idiot” thread. Save us all the time and post there directly if you have a comment that would meet those criteria. Commenters reserve the right to mock claims about how liberal ideas, such as higher taxes, actually work and how conservative and right wingers, are NAZIs, racists, sexists, etc. and will do so with great regularity.
