Senator Christopher Dodd Needs to Read the Constitution!
J.J. Jackson* | August 1, 2005
One of our favorite progressives, Senator Christopher Dodd is dumbing down Americans again. He is out there today talking about how the appointment of John Bolton as Ambassador to the United Nations is wrong because the Constitution doesn’t really give the President the authority to do this in this instance.
He said “Remember, this is written in the Constitution to provide during these long periods when Congress was not going to be around at all and you had to put people in place. Now what presidents do ? Democrats and Republicans ? is wait for a week or two recess to come along and slip someone in. I think it is an abuse of the process, whether Democrats or Republicans use it.” (source FOXx News)
Let’s look at that quote again shall we? “[The recess appointment] is written in the Constitution to provide during these long periods when Congress was not going to be around at all and you had to put people in place.”
Really Mr. Dodd? That’s odd, because according to my Constitution which is the ACTUAL one our founder’s signed and not this fictitious one you refer to it says “The President shall have Power to fill up all Vacancies that may happen during the Recess of the Senate, by granting Commissions which shall expire at the End of their next Session.” (Article 2, Section 2)
I see nothing in there about “long periods”. Care to enlighten us Mr. Dodd? Or would you care to actually READ the Constitution next time before you speak?
