Hacket Doesn’t Win Pretending Not To Be A Lefty

In perhaps what was a trial run for Hillary Clinton’s 2008 Presidential ambitions, Paul Hacket (D) running for a vacant U.S. House seat in Ohio lost 52 to 48%. Progressive left wing Democrats portray this close election in a typically overwhelmingly conservative area as a sign that America is not happy with the Republican Party.
But, as is often the case, the progressives are telling America half the story to avoid the embarrassing truth. And that truth is that anti-American, anti-war, higher tax platforms do not win elections.
So instead Hacket ran ads during the campaign saying “agreed with” President who said “there is no higher calling than service in our armed services”. In the same ads he said “these young men and women — they get it. We’re going to help these people” referring to the Iraqi citizens and “we’re all over there because we think America is worth fighting for.”
But unfortunately that doesn’t jive with comments he has made such as that we shouldn’t have gone to Iraq in the first place and that according to USA Today he said “that Bush was a greater threat to U.S. security than al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.” He also said that he supported raising taxes with regard to social security.
So what is the lesson here? Progressive lefties can only garner enough votes to make it close by lying about who they are. John “Christmas in Cambodia” Kerry did it in 2004 by flip flopping on every stinking issue and now Hacket has done the same by instead of running ads saying what he had actually said running adds that said what conservatives wanted to hear.
One can only wonder how many votes he would have gotten had he run on his real platform of “Iraq is wrong” and “raise taxes on the rich”. I would hazard to guess that he probably would have lost 3 to 1.
