Didn’t Hear Much From the Anti War Left on Recruitment in July

The reason? “The Army recruited the most new members, more than 8,000, 9 percent above its July goal. The Marines recruited more than 3,600 members, 103 percent of their goal; and the Air Force, almost 2,100, 101 percent of its goal. The Navy added more than 4,700 new sailors to its ranks, just 41 short of its July goal.” (Department of Defense)

Now, let’s also remember some thing else. These are just “goals”. These are not “We must hit these levels or we have no military” levels. Some bean counter comes up with these numbers and we all know that bean counters and bosses often set goals well above actually attainable levels.

If the army recruits 80,000 new soldiers a year that is over half of the current number of soldiers we have in Iraq. And we haven’t even counted the Marines, Navy and Air Force with those numbers. And that shows a problem of some sort? Wow, because it seems to me that it shows that we can do a pretty darn good job of maintaining our armed forces AND the military presence in Iraq as well.

So before you fall for the left wing psychobabble about how we can’t recruit enough people to fight “Bush’s War” look at the actual numbers and not the interpretation of those numbers.
