America Is Not Ready (Conservative America I mean)
J.J. Jackson* | July 18, 2005
My wife asked me the other day if I would ever consider running for national political office. I told her the same thing I have told so many people that say to me “You should run!” I told her that the majority of America, Conservative America, is not ready for a real conservative. I also told her that no one really knew who I was anyway so it was a moot point.
But what I said about a conservative America not being ready for a conservative candidate is still true. You’re not. Someone like myself who would get up there and say “I will uphold the Constitution! I will end the unconstitutional over reach of the federal government!” would get HUGE applause on the stump.
But that applause would soon end when those that were applauding found out that that meant having to do away with Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, farm subsidies, and a huge number of other programs that many self styled conservatives have their hands into. That applause on the stump would turn into silence at the ballot box.
I am not saying these things to belittle anyone. Don’t take it that way all you conservatives that would be in one of those groups that would have to have their hand slapped away from the government cookie jar. You’re still good people.
The conservative/constitutionalist/libertarian movement in this country is still growing and still evolving. But as a whole it is not ready for truly constitutional government that someone like myself would promote. And if you think otherwise read Why I Will Never Be President and ask yourself if the vast majority of people that you know would vote for me knowing that.
