Something Doesn’t Pass The Smell Test Here

A week ago I began talking about Business Week printing a claim that the military was paying $100/gallon to “buy gasoline and lug it to Iraq and Afghanistan for Humvees”. You can find my original post here ($100 per Gallon Gasoline?) and my followup post here (Business Week Update). Well, still nothing. Not a peep back from Business Week about where that $100 figure came from and I have been looking really hard on the internet to try and find it on my own while posting on various message boards. To this point no one has been able to come up with the source.

So I went back to my stack-o-articles and pulled out this gem from the New York Times which I remember liberals getting in a tizzy over because it claimed that Haliburton was gouging the United States by daring to charge $2.64/gallon for delivering gasoline from Kuwait. Now do you see why I am saying that something doesn’t smell quite right here?

In 2003 we were complaining about $2.64/gasoline and now, miraculously, we are at $100/gallon gasoline? Hell, if Haliburton was gouging at $2.64 who the heck is gouging us now?

I’ve said it before that I do not doubt that it may indeed cost upwards of $100/gallon to lug SOME of the gasoline to remote regions way up in the mountains without a distribution pipeline, but come on. I am not believing this $100/gallon claim is indicative of some standard price being paid … at least not without a source — which Business Week seems to not want to give.

So far all that this claim has done is inflame the left against the Bush Administration even more and raised the calls of how incompetent President Bush is by angry liberals that pound out emails to this website.

On topic and intelligent comments are always welcome as are humorous observations. But liberal talking points with no basis in reality, off topic comments, spam and advertisements are not. Even though you may think you are an intelligent liberal, you probably are not.
