Missing The Point On “Gulag” Comment

After Amnesty International refered to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba as a modern day “Gulag” and being taken to task for the idiotic comparison, William Schultz (the gorup’s director) went into full spin mode to justify it. Mr. Schulz told the Washington Times:
“The Bush administration has regularly relied on Amnesty International when it pleases them”
“So if we are such a left-leaning group, why did Donald Rumsfeld rely upon our reports in the run-up to the Iraq war and why is the administration more than happy to cite Amnesty reports on countries such as Cuba, China and North Korea?”
Um, I don’t know … perhaps maybe because those reports are right and this comparison is so assinine that anyone with a basic knowledge of what the Gulag was would know that the comparison was assinine?
See, it is not about what have you said in the past. The criticism is directly at this one, stupid little report that makes us wonder what you and Amnesty International is thinking … or smoking … or both! And when you go on further to state of Vice President Cheney:
“He clearly does not take the Geneva Convention and international law seriously.”
It only goes to further the suspicion that you and your oganization are not playing with a full deck.
Vice President Cheney doesn’t take the Geneva Convention seriously because he thinks your comparison is retarded? Do you even know what the Geneva Convention is for Mr. Schulz? Here’s a quick lesson just in case you don’t. The Convention is to protect uniformed soldiers fighting for a specific nation against torture and abuse. Now what nation do the prisoners are Guantanamo Bay represent exactly? And what nation’s uniforms are they wearing when they are picked up?
The answers to the above are none and none. Why? Because they are terrorists and terrorists are not included in the Geneva Conventions because the Geneva Convention wanted to help stop terrorism by making it undesirable to partake in because you would not be protected once caught. DUH!
As for the “Gulag” reference, please remember Mr. Schulz that those places were where political prisoners were taken to to be used as slave labor in a Communist regime and worked basically until they died. Last time I looked Guantanamo Bay was not filled with randomly snagged political prosoners being used to build things and worked to death.
So maybe next time you will think before speaking. Better that than to open your mouth and remove all doubt about your intelligence as the old saying goes. That is unless you like being mentioned in the same breath as Dan Rather.

On topic and intelligent comments are always welcome as are humorous observations. But liberal talking points with no basis in reality, off topic comments, spam and advertisements are not. Even though you may think you are an intelligent liberal, you probably are not. Keep this in mind as trolling is prohibited and will result in your comments not being approved and comments informing us how much we are a bunch of idiots because you say we are or espousing hate towards the truth are often moved directly to the official “I Hate You/You’re An Idiot” thread. Save us all the time and post there directly if you have a comment that would meet those criteria. Commenters reserve the right to mock claims about how liberal ideas, such as higher taxes, actually work and how conservative and right wingers, are NAZIs, racists, sexists, etc. and will do so with great regularity.
