I Say Let Them Burn The Flag!

Our House of Representatives yesterday blessed a proposed amendment to the Federal Constitution which reads:

The Congress shall have power to prohibit the physical desecration of the flag of the United States.

What I am about to say is going to come as a shock to some of the conservatives out there, but I still say LET THEM BURN IT!

The Constitution should never be amended to confer the concept that just because you are offended by something that that something should be illegal. And that is basically what this anti-flag burning amendment does — it tries to stop people from being offended.

Well what is next then? A “No swearing in public” amendment? How about a “No religious symbols in public” amendment? Take your pick of anything that might “offend” someone because if the Senate and the States approve this amendment that flies in the face of our liberties and the Constitution itself you will be on that slippery slope to making it a right to not be offended.

Let them burn the flag. And if these yahoos that want to burn the flag are too poor to afford the lighter fluid, matches and the flag I say we take up a collection and buy these tools for them. But they have to agree to let themselves and their hateful anti-American rhetoric be filmed and plastered all over the 6 o’clock news.

I say let them burn the flag. Because each time they do they lose support and America becomes stronger.
