People to the right of center are starting to fret over how John McCain is being perceived as positioning himself as a uniter for the 2008 presidential election. With his backroom deal among the devils of the Senate to ?help? judicial confirmations and his gang of 6 many conservatives fear that McCain will be the man to beat in 08.
I am hear to tell you not to worry your pretty little heads off about the man that brought us such unconstitutional programs as Campaign Finance Reform. He isn’t going to win the nomination. I feel confident in saying that because the Republican leadership, while moderate, is not overly stupid. When you have message boards like Free Conservatives and threads showing almost no support for a McCain Presidency you KNOW the RNC has got to be catching wind of this.
And like I said over at Free Conservatives, there will be a heck of a lot of Conservatives including myself popping up out of the woodwork to defeat any McCain run for the nomination. About the only chance he has is if he runs for President on the Democratic ticket because it is going to be a cold day in Hell before the conservative and libertarian base of the Republican party votes for this man.
He had a chance in 2000 but only because people were not as politically aware as they are today. Many people supported McCain because they bought into the “straight talk” myth of this man. However now more than 5 years ago, conservatives especially are much more informed. And I hate to say it, but they don’t like you John McCain. War hero or not, your candidacy is doomed McCain ? doomed.
